Q & A
by Ryan Reynolds of Bootycat Publishing, LLC
Rocky
Q.
Who were your greatest influences in
song writing?
A. Oh,
guess you could say – Seger, McCartney,
Blind Mississippi Morrison, George
Henry, Buffet and a really nice writer,
Archie Jordan.
Q.
Rocky, when did you start writing songs?
A.
Many years ago. I didn’t have much to
say back then. I just rolled with the
punches, took life a day at a time and
wrote about mind less things brought on
by too many bad choices.
Q.
What kind of bad choices?
A. The
kind that get you in trouble – big
trouble. I was running fast, living
faster, and trying to stay one step
ahead of who ever was chasing me at the
time. The faster I ran, the further I
got behind. But, that’s all in the
past. History is history. It doesn’t
help to think, “I should’ah - could’ah.”
You have to face your demons, pray for
guidance from the Good Lord above and
never look back cause if you do the
devil will laugh as he takes you down.
And brother, don’t think he won’t do it
if you give him half a chance.
Q.
It sounds like you gave him ample
opportunity.
A.
Now that is a true statement if I ever
heard one. Back then you could sum it
up in two words. Self Absorbsition.
Thank the Good Lord above he sent
someone to help me when I needed it the
most.
Q.
And who was that?
A.
My third wife. I write about her in
some of my songs. Many women have
crossed my path, some were beautiful,
some were smart, and some were fun, but
she saved me.
She helped me see
the light. You hear people talk about
angels – well, I live with one.
Q.
You said you have written about her in
some of your songs – what else have you
written about?
A.
Well, let’s see now,
NASCAR,
High school love, true life stories,
my travel experiences, love songs, funny
songs, spiritual songs, personal songs,
healing songs for our country, country
songs, children’s songs, you name and
I’ve probably touched on it. It’s been
an on going effort now for several years
to share with my fans what I have faced
so they will know they are not alone –
that someone else out there has done
similar things, felt the pain, shared
those intimate moments leading to heart
brake, laughed, loved, and somewhere
deep inside wishing to do some it again.
Q.
Tell us about your
NASCAR songs.
A.
I was hoping you wouldn’t ask me about
my
NASCAR
songs. That’s another story for the
next interview much to involved to get
into now. But I will give you some
background on my two new releases,
“All American Heroes,” and “A Solider
Song.”
“All American Heroes,” was
written after watching “United Flight
93,”on TV. The song is a tribute to the
men and women who chose to give their
lives in defense of our country on
September 11th,
2001, and the fire fighters, police and
military who have protected us in the
past
and are still giving their lives for us
today so we may live free.
They are
truly my All American Heroes.
Q. You
mentioned “A Soldiers Song.” What is it
about?
A. This
song is written from the foot soldiers
perspective – what it would be like to
be separated from some you love. It’s
something that all who has served will
be able to identify with.
Listen, I hate to
cut this short, but Amos is scratch’n on
the back door and if he ain’t cut loose
he’s gun’ a drop one on the rug.
Besides that it’s way past ole Max
Booty’s bedtime. So, hi-de-ous my
friend. We’ll continue this later,
Q.
You promise? I want to hear about your
NASCAR songs.
A. Yes,
I promise, but I can’t say when, this is
take’en up valuable song writing time –
and --- AMOUS!! --- AMOUS!! --- QUIT
THAT – ding dang coon dog -- see, I
told ya’ so…………
