NUMBER 3 CAR

EVEN HELLS ANGLES CAN MAKE IT TO HEAVEN
2 SONG CD

Tells the true story of  Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s last race.     No doubt his passing marked one of the darkest days in the history of NASCAR.  The song is written for those fans interested in the rest of the story not told by the, "Media."   Listen closely.  What you hear is fact.    ROCKY introduces this song as:  "The first country and western, red neck, gospel,  NASCAR song ever written and probably the last one too.

BUDWEISER STATE OF MIND
1 SONG CD

A salute to the number 8 car driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.   Without fail every time Booty plays this song -- someone in the crowd says, "What about the Number 3 car?"  So, he was forced to write: "Number 3,"  After many futile attempts to get it down on paper Rocky says he put it on the shelf and forgot about it; that is until he saw an article in the Brunswick Times by Rhonda Rich -- a published NASCAR writer.  So says Rocky, "If it weren't for Rhonda Rich -- he'd still be ah scratch'n his head over this one."

Do you remember where you were the day he died?  "I Remember;

 I remember it well."  from Rocky's song:  "I Remember"

 It was a typical bright Sunday afternoon  at the airport in Daytona, Florida.   I was putting the finishing touches on my first manuscript titled, "Golden Moon," while waiting to fly Kyle Petty and "The King" back to Randleman NC after the Daytona 500.    I couldn't believe it when it happened, or where, or how it happened.  All I knew was he was gone.  Even after all this time it's still hard to believe..  I guess our "heroes" die hard.

After Dale's death several years passed as I tried to put the song "Number Three Car" down on paper.  It just would not come out.  Then finally it did. All it took was  a song writing lesson with one of Nashville's superstars --Archie Jordan.   www. Archie Jordan.com

The lesson came to pass in an unusual way.  My song writing mentor -- George Henry -- knew Archie.  They went to high school together.  The lesson was a birthday present  from George.  It lasted about five very short hours.  One of the songs I was working on at the time was "Budweiser State Of Mind."  Parts of it Archie liked and parts of the song needed more work.  So I headed back home inspired by greatness and humbled by my apparent lack of knowledge for writing songs.

 I guess a year or so passed.   I finished "Budweiser State Of Mind" and every time I played it out the crowd would shout, "What about the 3 car."  Feeling the pressure I tried again and got nowhere.  I put the song on the shelf and forgot about it.  At least  for a while that is ---until one Sunday morning during breakfast at the Sand Dollar cafe' located on the coast of southeastern Georgia.

As I ate breakfast I read the local news paper, The Brunswick Times.  And, lo-and -behold there on the front page was a story penned by an "old hand" at covering NASCAR.  Her name was Rhonda Rich.  Rhonda knew all the wives of the NASCAR drivers and her story detailed a lunch meeting with Darrell Waltrip's wife.  She described how Waltrip was standing next to Dale before the start of a Sunday race.  Waltrip's wife handed Darrell a scripture from the bible.  It was a race day family tradition.   Earnhardt looked at Waltrip's scripture and said: "Where's mine?"  From that race forward, even after Darrell retired from racing, Mrs. Waltrip continued giving Earnhardt a scripture before the Sunday race.

On the day Earnhardt passed she gave him Proverbs 18 - 10:  "The name of the Lord is a strong tower;  the righteous run to it and are safe."  When the rescue team, "Pulled our hero from that crumpled pile they found a note on the steering wheel."  It was Proverbs 18-10.

As I finished the article I suddenly realized  --- "There's the song,"-- and the rest of this story is history.

Do you remember where you were the day he died ?

"I Remember."
